Gogol entry

Photobucket...So this piece was mostly inspired by Gogol Bordello and Prince. I want to focus on doing panoramic narrative paintings. For good examples of what I mean check out Tom Masse. This was an attempt to move more in that direction.

Brush and ink sketch

and ass.
...So this is an older sketch I did for Mariclare. I'm trying to keep this blog current so occasional I will upload older pieces. Mariclare's blog can be viewed at inspirationnnation.tumblr.com This piece is somewhat inspired by Brian Froud. I would love to reach his level of artistic mastery. I also have a soft spot for fairy images in general-- so sue me I guess. Brian Froud's work can be viewed at http://www.worldoffroud.com

Reproduction of Warwick Saint photo

This piece is a reproduction of a photo by Warwick Saint. Warwick Saint is a fashion photography, and director. This piece I found while reading Inked magazine. I like most people have a love/hate relationship with fashion photography; while I tend to enjoy many of the images, I often feel a kind of alienation. The composition and shadow drew me to reproduce this photo. I included text directly into the piece, but never inked it. I enjoyed the execution on this piece but I feel i could have gone darker. This piece definitely played a part in inspiring me me to post pics more regularly.

Ad nauseam

Photobucket This piece I am calling Ad-nauseam. It's mostly a piece celebrating low brow surrealism. The notion is that mickey is painting with a substance that is mutating into bastard reproductions of himself. When I started this picture I spent a little bit of time contemplating the work of Greg "Craola" Simkins whose work I hope to become more familiar with.

I enjoy Simkins so far because of how he passionately re imagines the still life through his fascination with, and dedication to surrealism. Simkins gave an interview to Hi Fructose magazine Vol 14 2010, where he talks about his process of developing characters by asking himself "what are they dreaming about?" In the article he explains some of the ideas that inspire his pearl thief series. You can check out and support Greg at http://www.imscared.com/

My mickey piece is also a nod to the work of Aesop rock whose music I am presently obsessed with, particularly the labor days album.
